Erica Hand, Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, APRN, FNP, PMHNP (She/Hers)

Hello and welcome to the second interview for The Many Faces of Healing Interview Series!

I started this journey because I wanted to interview other healers in different areas of expertise. I’m an anxiety therapist specializing in EMDR therapy. My focus is on working with hardworking overachievers who are tired of running in circles and embodied chaos in their lives. They typically struggle with perfectionism rooted in past negative life experiences and are ready to find healing for their whole self.

Because I work so closely with anxiety and trauma, I was curious to see how other professionals see trauma and anxiety come up in their work. I also wanted to find and connect with more awesome professionals as a resource for when something outside of therapy is helpful for the clients I work with and for people in general! I truly believe that to take care of ourselves and our mental health, oftentimes more than therapy is necessary. That’s why I love connecting in with all types of specialties!

If you are in the state of Florida (or even work nationwide) and see clients with anxiety, trauma, or perfectionism- I would love to hear from you! My goal in this is to create a network of amazing people who know what I do and how I can help while also building a resource for people to find the help they need when they need it from awesome professionals whose goal is to help people build a life they love.

How long have you been working in the profession you are now? How do anxiety and trauma typically show up in your work with people?

10+ years.

Anxiety and trauma show up in the form of excessive worry, sadness, poor sleep, poor appetite, unhealthy relationships, and poor self-image.

How do you see trauma show up in the body (chiropractor, massage therapist, reflexologist, doctor, nurse practitioner, etc.) when you work with the body?

I see trauma present as people being guarded, tense, timid, or on the opposite end combative.

What do you generally find the most frequent obstacle clients report as it relates to anxiety, perfectionism, trauma, or overall mental health?

One of the main obstacles is a lack of insight into what is occurring followed by the cause and trigger(s).

Tell me more about the work you do as a healer?

I provide medication management as well as supportive and solution-based therapy. I look at the whole person and integrate tools that improve the mind, body, and spirit.

What do you wish more people knew about in terms of your work? What about in terms of healing trauma or anxiety?

I wish more people knew that medication is only one part of the process. It's not for everyone and it won't change everything. Medication coupled with therapy + action is the ultimate life hack. Finding out the causes, triggers, and how to improve leads to healing.

How can people find out more about what you do and how you can help? How can they reach you?

I can be reached at www.welliti.com
